Position: Interpreters and Translators (volunteer)
Reports to: Managing Attorney and/or Staff Attorney
The Legal Department seeks volunteer interpreters
(oral) and translators (written) to work with:
§ work with the legal staff on interpretation with legal staff and clients for preparation of immigration applications (including family unification, naturalization, domestic violence, deportation defense, and other cases)
§ interpretation at interviews at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (adjustment of status, VAWA adjustment, NACARA, limited asylum)
§ work on translations of documents, including official documents, community education materials, and Institute materials
Interpreters and translators with certifications
are very welcome, but certification not necessary. A skills test may be given
to determine area of placement. This is a great opportunity use your skills to
help the immigrant community, and to build your skills and experience.
Currently, we are most in need of individuals who
have abilities in English and Spanish.
For other languages, we will add you to our listof volunteer interpreters
and translators, and will contact you when we have requests for that language.
We serve clients from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds, so have periodic
needs for a wide variety of languages.
