Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers are an indispensable part of the Institute. Below are brief descriptions of the volunteer positions in our various programs and departments. Note that we take great care in matching volunteer skills with the Institute's needs. We will ask for your resume, and that you come in for an orientation. Both you and the relevant staff member can determine if it's a good fit. Pilot Social Services Unit
Intake Coordinator Help create a welcoming environment for individuals and families who enter the doors of the Institute! The Intake Coordinator fills a crucial position, which will work directly with clients to complete an initial intake form, and provide clients one-on-one attention and information. We are especially seeking bilingual Spanish-English speakers, who can volunteer a minimum of 4 hours a week during regular office hours. Immigration Legal Services
Legal Interns, Volunteer Attorneys and Community Members The Institute's Legal Department invites volunteer attorneys, law students and community members to work on family-based immigration cases, applications for battered immigrants under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), deportation defense, and citizenship. We provide high quality training and supervision to law students and other interns and volunteers committed to helping our diverse group of clients. We also seek attorneys who can join our pro bono panel and participate in immigration clinics, provide technical assistance, and/or take on a pro bono case. Deportation
Defense Project
Experienced mentor attorneys, volunteer attorneys, legal interns, and interpreters The Institute's new Deportation Defense Project invites volunteer attorneys, law students, interpreters, and community members to work to defend low-income immigrants against unfair and unjust deportations. Contact Naomi Onaga at extension 322 to discuss how you can be part of our deportation defense team.

Caregivers Program
ESL Tutors, Conversation Partners, and Job Readiness Tutors The Training and Employment Department invites volunteers interested in working with limited English speaking immigrant women to consider tutoring on a weekly basis, and/or participating in a conversation hour - an opportunity for students to practice their English. Job Readiness Tutors help students polish their resumes and cover letters, practice possible interview questions, and become proficient in basic computer use and Internet navigation. Volunteers with experience in teaching ESL are strongly encouraged to apply. For more information, contact Carol Perez at extension 308.
